An Ecumenical Prayer Service
to Renew Appalachian Communities
Join people of faith from across the nation in prayer
for the people and the mountains of Appalachia.

WE WILL PRAY FOR:
a healthy environment for children
safety for miners
sustainable jobs for the unemployed
helathy forests
clean water
security from flooding and property damage from mountaintop removal
We invite you to participate in this prayerful expression to link employment and community with conservation and creation. Using a modified version of the traditional Way of the Cross, we will reflect about our responsibility in faith to build a just society while exercising our vocation as stewards of God's Earth. This prayer service is open to all people of faith.
Purpose Statement:
We of faith communities assemble to pray with residents of mountain communities living in fear from the devestation of mountaintop removal to their property, land and the God-given natural resources that surround them. We pray for renewal of human and ecological communities througout the mountains and for alternative work to bring greater diversity and choice for employment. We pray by raising the Cross of Christ to remind us that Earth belongs to God by creation and to us by delegation, and ultimately God must rule over all human affairs.
